Social-post correction sequence template and version ledger

A correction record connects an old statement to its replacement and the copies that reused it. In this invented example, a workshop post says 2pm but the organizer's schedule says 3pm. The editor checks the original post, a story and a queued reminder, then records what was changed and what still needs attention. Use the blank ledger for your actual source and versions; it does not change a live post automatically.

For: Editors responsible for correcting a factual error in an already published social post and its reused versions. Use it to: Document the old statement, verified correction, source, affected copies and human-owned follow-up so each correction is accurate and traceable.

A fictional editor compares two blank post cards with a source sheet and version ledger at a desk.

  • Discover and contain

Fictional issue: workshop post Workshop-p1 says “Starts at 2pm.” The editor records that exact version and marks its reuse on hold in the team's queue while checking the organizer's schedule.

  • Verify the correction

Fictional verification: Schedule-v4 lists 3pm for the same Saturday workshop. The organizer confirms that this is the intended session. The correction record quotes both 2pm and 3pm so the error is identifiable.

  • Update affected copies

Reuse check: the original post and Story-s1 repeat 2pm; queued Reminder-r1 also uses it. The editor records each copy separately. An older newsletter is still being checked and remains unresolved.

  • Publish a clear correction note

Private team note: “Workshop-p1 and Story-s1 used 2pm. Schedule-v4 confirms 3pm for this session. Please replace the queued Reminder-r1 text and reply with the version you checked. The older newsletter is still under review.”

  • Close the loop

Public note after those changes: “Correction: our earlier workshop post listed 2pm. This session starts at 3pm. We have corrected the post and story.” If only one location was changed, name only that location.

Copyable correction ledger and notification scripts

Use one ledger row for every known reuse. Keep the verified source attached to the corrected fact and record each human action separately.

A quick note

Make it fit your situation

Do not fill the new fact until an identified source supports it.

Track only copies actually found; do not imply a complete search without evidence.

Keep internal notifications distinct from public correction wording.

A person with the correct account access must decide and perform any platform change.
