Platform caption length counter for your checked field limit

A caption can fit one counting rule and exceed another. Enter your caption, the destination field you checked, its current limit and the matching counting method. The result shows remaining space or overrun and keeps those assumptions in a downloadable report.

For: Creators checking a specific editor or scheduler field against its current documented limit. Use it to: Check fit against a supplied destination field budget using an explicit counting method.

Actual working field-limit checker comparing a caption made of A, a family emoji and a combining-accent e against a supplied five-grapheme budget. It reports three grapheme clusters, two remaining, fourteen UTF-16 units, ten code points and twenty-nine UTF-8 bytes.

Check a caption against your field limit

Supply the current limit and counting method from your destination. The comparison uses those inputs; no universal platform limit is assumed.

Use the current limit and counting method documented by your destination. URL weighting, markup, platform normalization and other destination-specific rules are not simulated.

Use the rule for the field you will publish into

Name the actual destination field and enter its current limit. Choose the counting method that destination documents. This tool compares your inputs; it does not maintain a platform-limit directory or simulate URL weighting, markup, platform normalization or other special rules.

Whitespace and line breaks in the browser field are counted. The tool does not trim or normalize the caption before counting. Browser text areas can normalize pasted line endings, so review the final destination too.

See why emoji can change the comparison

The displayed example contains A, a family emoji joined with zero-width joiners and an e followed by a combining acute accent. It has 14 UTF-16 code units, 10 Unicode code points, 3 grapheme clusters and 29 UTF-8 bytes. With a supplied limit of 5 grapheme clusters, 2 remain. With a supplied limit of 5 UTF-16 units, the same caption is 9 units over.

Grapheme clusters use Intl.Segmenter when the browser provides it. If unavailable, that method is marked unavailable; another count is not presented as an approximate grapheme count.

Keep the assumptions with the result

  • The report records the supplied destination, limit, chosen method, measured count, remaining space or overrun and the original caption.
  • The supplementary counts help explain differences between methods; the field-limit comparison is the main result.
  • The readability checker has a different purpose: reviewing sentence length and editing prompts. This tool answers whether the caption fits your supplied field budget.
